In 2006 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) helped form Catholic Climate Covenant, a non-profit based in Washington, D.C. The purpose is to “address growing ecological awareness and the need to implement Catholic social teaching on ecology within the US Church.”
As a part of the Catholic Climate Covenant’s dedication to protecting the environment, they developed the “St. Francis Pledge,” which pledges commitment to the words of St. Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si’ on caring for creation and the poor. A variety of Catholic organizations, universities, Dioceses, and religious communities have signed the pledge, as well as over 10,000 individuals.
The collection consists largely of published and printed material from a variety of sources, with much of it issued by the Catholic Climate Covenant. It includes booklets, magazines, newspapers and newspaper clippings, programs, correspondenc, grant applications, meeting agendas, and marketing materials. There are also photographs, DVDs of conferences, a t-shirt and banner, and other conference materials.
The first series is Corporate Papers - Meetings, Conferences, Business Papers, multimedia and ephemera, 2003 to 2016 and undated, in box one and organized in loose chronological order. Although most of the commercially published materials are in Series 2, some newspaper clippings and online articles are included with the business papers.
The second series is Publications - Magazines, Newspapers, Booklets, and publishings by Catholic Climate Covenant, 1939 to 2016 and undated, in box two, also in loose chronological order.
