Welcome to the Semitics/ ICOR Library!
The Semitics/ ICOR Library is one of the University Libraries’ special collections. It focuses on the ancient and medieval Jewish, Christian, and Muslim presence in the Near East and North Africa. The Semitics/ICOR Library houses one part of the Faculty of the Department of Ancient and Medieval Languages and Cultures. Departmental classes are taught in seminar rooms within the Library. The library’s large holdings of Christian and Islamic manuscripts from Ethiopia give it a special responsibility to work with Ethiopian and Eritrean diaspora communities in North America.
In this website you will learn about this special collection at the Catholic University of America. You also can review our digitized collections.
Our website is a work in progress, and we encourage you to contact our staff for more information.

Two Figures in the New May Gallery Exhibit
The Semitics/ICOR Library is excited to share that two of its most important figures are featured in The Light They Carried: Celebrating Luminaries of Catholic University History in Mullen May Gallery.
The exhibit showcases several notable CUA luminaries, including Msgr. Henry Hyvernat, the University’s first professor, and Gerald and Barbara Weiner, exceptional donors of Ethiopian manuscripts and scrolls.
